The Sanctuary Austin: A safe haven
It is our goal to provide a place of sanctuary for all who enter. This is God's church, and you are welcome. We believe in an unconditional loving Christ full of grace who wants to be in relationship with each of us.
Three Steps Ahead: A Church-Wide Dialogue
Beginning late February, the Sanctuary family will begin gathering in structured conversation seeking answers to the questions, “Who are we?”, “What do we do?”, and “How do we do it?” There will be 3 phases or “steps” to this conversation:
Step One: The Many: a conversation on individuals’ perceptions of The Sanctuary.
Step Two: The One: toward a unified vision.
Step Three: The Mission: taking action.
Please look for more information about this momentous occasion in the life of our congregation and make plans to attend the sessions. In attempt to accommodate everyone, there will be three session times to choose from, please plan to attend one:
- Wednesday, February 22, 7 - 9 p.m. (Wednesday Bible Study time)
- Sunday, February 26, following morning worship. (Lunch Provided)
- Monday, February 27, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
If you are unavailable for any of these times, Brent will be happy to set up an appointment with you individually. Please share your voice in this important conversation.
A Conversation on Convergence
Recognizing significant shifts in our local and American culture regarding church membership and participation, the Sanctuary has entered a conversation about possible convergence with other progressive, free-church congregations in Austin (see vision statement here). We are exploring ways we can cooperate with each other and strengthen each other. The following churches are engaged in this conversation with us and we commend them to you!
- Congregational Church of Austin, Tom VandeStadt, pastor
- Journey Imperfect Faith Community, Rick and Leslie Diamond, pastors
- University Baptist Church, Larry Bethune, pastor
